Pat Hennelly has a reputation of being a shrewd International recruiter. The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s volleyball coach has made a name for himself across Canada for his ability to bring in top international talent.
In the past, the WolfPack has had players from Denmark, Monaco, France, Egypt, Poland, Turkey and the United States. Now, Thompson Rivers can lay claim to having a volleyball player from Norway.
Hennelly and the WolfPack are pleased to announce that 6’5” middle Daniel Eikland Rod of Os, Norway has committed to the CIS team for the fall of 2012.
“One of our alumni, Tony Zylsta (Edmonton, AB WolfPack player 2006-08) played professionally in Norway,” Hennelly explained. “ He connected me with some coaches. I’ve been in contact over the past two years with various players and it was a good fit with Daniel.”
“I am really looking forward to playing CIS Volleyball,” says Eikland Rod, who played with two club teams last year: Forde VBK and TVN (Topp Volley Norway). “ I’ve seen clips from TRU and other teams and I’m impressed with the high level of play. I am always looking for new challenges and going to TRU is a new step in the right direction.”
Eikland Rod describes himself as a ‘social player on the court’ who isn’t afraid to talk to his teammates and voice his opinion. “I have heard TRU is a good place to develop my skills and a place where you can perform at a high level.” He plans to take Business Administration at Thompson Rivers.
“ I like the fact that Daniel played as a middle blocker and stayed in the back row to pass,” Hennelly explains. “ Daniel should provide depth and stability to our line up.”
Eikland Rod will be joining the team in time for the start of school in September. He becomes the third recruit signed by the WolfPack for the coming year joining Blake Majcher (6’1” libero, Brandon, MB-Neelin High School-Medicine Hat College, ACAC) and Graham Stoliker ( 19, 6’4”setter, Surrey, BC-Tamanawis Secondary/Douglas College PACWEST).
The WolfPack kick off their 2012-13 Canada West season October 26 th at the Tournament Capital Centre against the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat.
