The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s soccer team knew they would be in a tough match when they hit the field Saturday (Oct 6) in New Westminster, BC. Their opponents, the Douglas College Royals are hosting the 2012 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships and they have ‘loaded up’. Going into the match unbeaten, the Royals gave the WolfPack all they could handle before beating them 1-0.
“I was proud of the way our players handled themselves,” said WolfPack co head coach John Antulov. “ We held them pretty even for most of the match. We couldn’t capitalize on our chances while they did on theirs.”
Antulov felt if his team got more shots on goal and sent more players to the net, they would have had a chance to tie it up.
He is looking for that trait to be more evident on Sunday (Oct 7) when they visit the Kwantlen Polytechnic Eagles in their final road game of the 2012 PACWEST season.
With the win, the Royals stay tied with the VIU Mariners for first place in the PACWEST with six wins and three ties. TRU falls to 3 wins, two ties and four losses. That puts them in fifth place overall
Kwantlen is third in the league with four wins, four ties and one loss.
Thompson Rivers returns home to face the Quest Kermodes and the Langara College Falcons on October 13 th and 14 th at Hillside Stadium.
