Tom McManus being interviewed (Oct 20,2013 Snucins)

Tom McManus is the Coach of the WolfPack Women’s Soccer team. They are the two time PACWEST Champs and he is the two time PACWEST coach of the year.

We played the final games of the season this weekend and it was against two teams that we may play in the PACWEST playoffs. I thought that it was a perfect way to finish a season. This way the WolfPack will be on edge and not coming in sloppy. We had some goals for this season and I am very happy to say that they were achieved by everyone. I am very proud of everyone connected with the team. We won both games this weekend. We beat Quest on Saturday by a score of 1-0

This was a very good game by two strong teams. The WolfPack played their game and continues to possess. Alanna Bekkering received a ball from Kelsey Martin and finished it to give us a 1-0 lead. We went into the dressing room with the lead.

The second half started and once again we went at Quest. It was a quality game and the WolfPack had some other great opportunities but just couldn’t find the net. Some great saves by Tiana Gilchrist of Quest. It was a good game with the WolfPack winning 1-0 to keep the unbeaten streak alive.

Starting 11 for final college game vs Langara (Oct 20, 2013 Snucins)

On Sunday we played Langara who tied us the first time we played them 1-1 with a last minute penalty kick awarded to Langara. We wanted to go out and play our style and make them do lots of running. They are a very good team who put on a high pressure game. Every time the ball would come to a WolfPack player there would be at least two Langara players there to put the pressure on. Fortunately the WolfPack continued to play their style and made the Langara player chase the ball. In the 9th minute Kelsey crossed a ball to Jaydene Radu, whose birthday was the day before, Jay put it away with no problem. This is also the first goal she has scored on a Sunday. She has scored all of her other goals on Saturdays.

We went into the dressing room at half time with a 1-0 lead. We had a talk during the half time break. We also made a few changes to give some more players some field time. They did a great job and in the 73rd minute Courtney Daly scored her third goal of the season on a great through ball from Emily Olive. The game kept going and Emily Edmundson made a couple of great saves to keep us ahead. In the 90th minute they had a corner kick which we cleared and had a very quick transition with Alanna Bekkering going the length of the field and depositing the ball in the net to make the final score 3-0. What a great way for Alanna to finish off her WolfPack career.

The big thing is we went undefeated for the season. I then found out that this is the first time any team at TRU went undefeated. I didn’t know we were making history. What a wonderful feeling as we are all proud of being a part of Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.

We will now get ready for the PacWest Provincial playoffs which will start next Saturday in Nanaimo.

At the end of the game we had some very special presentations to our graduating players. Alanna Bekkering, Laura Smylie and Vanessa Zilkie have completed their University degree or have completed their five years of eligibility. They will all be very hard to replace but we will do what we can. Right now our focus is on the Provincial Championships and see if we can three peat. That would be great.
