The Corryn Brown foursome—representing the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack—are undefeated after the opening day of the 2016 CIS Curling Nationals, being played at the Kelowna Curling club.

Brown and her rink which consists of lead Ashley Nordin, second Samantha Fisher and third Erin Pincott downed the University of New Brunswick Reds 6-2 and the Brandon University Bobcats 9-3 on Sunday (Mar 20).

In the opening game against Samantha Crook of UNB, the WolfPack rallied from 1-0 deficit to score two in the second end. After New Brunswick tied things up in the third, Brown scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth en route to the victory.

Statistically, Nordin curled 90 per cent with Pincott curling 81 per cent.

In the second game of the day, Brown found herself down 1-0 again after the opening end to Janelle Vachon and her Bobcats foursome. They then scored two in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fifth, one more in the sixth and had a three ender in the eighth before the teams shook hands. Again Nordin and Pincott had the best curling percent with 91 and 86 respectively.

Monday (Mar 21), will see TRU curling three times. They play the University of Guelph Gryphons (Jestyn Murphy) at 9 am, face Wilfred Laurier (Chelsea Brandwood) at 2 pm and meet up with the Dalhousie University Tigers (Kristen Clark) in the night draw at 7 pm.
TRU doesn’t have a varsity curling program but Brown’s foursome is being supported by the WolfPack athletics department.
