Current and past members of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack were winners as the Kamloops Sports Council handed out its awards for 2015.
Volleyball player Iuliia Pakhomenko (4th year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) was named the University Athlete of year for 2015. Pakhomenko was honored for being the first TRU women’s volleyball player to be named a Canada West and CIS all-star. She edged out basketball players Josh Wolfram (5th year, forward, Kamloops,BC) and Emma Piggin (2nd year, guard, Kamloops, BC).
The Corryn Brown foursome: consisting of lead Ashley Nordin, second Samantha Fisher, third Erin Pincott and Brown as skip were recognized as team of the year for 2015. They were the first TRU team to win a medal in university play as they captured the Western Canadian championships and then followed with a silver medal at the CIS Nationals.
Former WolfPack volleyball Ashley Shannik was named the Sports person of the year. She was recognized for her work in community volleyball, Team BC volleyball and with the athletic program at Barriere Secondary school.
Ex womens volleyball assistant coach Wai Ma was named the Coach of the Year for directing the Sa-hali Secondary senior girls team to the city’s first provincial volleyball championship. Ma was an assistant with Carrie Barrett with the University College of the Cariboo Sun Demons and the WolfPack.
