Wednesday was the start of playoffs for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Baseball team and they got the start they wanted. They were playing the University of Fraser Valley Cascades, a team in which took three of four from the ‘Pack last weekend. But the result was different this time around as the ‘Pack beat the Cascades 13-2.
Scott Wood (Stratford, ONT) took the ball to open the tourney and had a great start. He threw eight innings, allowing only two runs (one earned) on nine hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.

The offense was alive as they collected 22 hits as a team. Josh Snider (Moses Lake, WA) went 3-4 with 4 RBIs and a run scored. The ‘Pack one-two guys in the order, Josh Hillis (Calgary, AB) and Blayne Halland (Kamloops, BC) each had four hits. Halland had two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Hillis had a double and two runs scored. Adam Filmon (Winnipeg, MB) and Connor McKenzie (Kamloops, BC) both went 3-5 with two RBIs. Filmon also scored three times. Ethan Mohan (Calgary, AB) went 1-5 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Austin Dundas (Pilot Butte, SASK) went 1-2 with two runs scored. Greg Labranche (Maple Ridge, BC), Isiah McDonald (Grand Forks, BC) and Malik James (Toronto, ONT) each had a hit. Vance Fode got ejected in the 2nd inning for running the catcher.

The WolfPack will be back on the field for their second game of the tournament on Thursday at 12:30. They take on the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs at Elks Stadium in Kelowna.
