The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s soccer team continued their exhibition season as they opened up a two game exhibition tournament with the host MacEwan University Griffins and the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
On Saturday (Aug 18), the WolfPack took on the UBC Timberwolves in their second exhibition match falling to the Timberwolves 2-0. It was scoreless after the first half.

SYNOPSIS:

This tournament is held every year and TRU was to have hosted. It was moved because of the air quality as a result of the Interior wildfires.
These three teams will meet in week two of the Canada West regular season (Sept 8-10). TRU will travel to Prince George to meet the Timberwolves on September 8 th and then visit Edmonton and MacEwan on the 10th.

The WolfPack will meet up with host MacEwan at 11 am MDT on Sunday (Aug 20).

KEY STATS:

Keepers: Brady (first half) Clark (second half)

RECORDS:

TRU (pre season) 0-2

QUOTES:

TRU head coach KELLY SHANTZ:

On game: “ We rotated almost all our players (22 of 24 roster players) as we continued to take a look at everyone. Not really going with any semblance of a starting line up so I am not worried about the result. I learned more about our players and who will work well together. It was windy conditions: 80 kilometer an hour going across the field. We had a few good moments but also some very poor moments. A lot of players really figuring out who is beside them on the field and learning their nuances as they play together. That is totally expected. Good work by some of the freshmen and some of the veterans.”

UP NEXT:

Next home exhibition match for the WolfPack will be Wednesday, August 23rd against the Douglas College Royals of New Westminster, BC (PACWEST).
They then will go to Washington State for exhibitions against Pacific Lutheran College (Aug 27) and Saint Martins University (Aug 26).

Thompson Rivers will open their 2017 Canada West season on the road with a game in Prince George on Friday, September 8th against UNBC. They then move to Edmonton, Alberta for a Sunday September 10th noon MDT kick off against the MacEwan University Griffins.

The WolfPack regular season home opener will be Saturday, September 23rd when the UBC Thunderbirds pay a visit to Hillside Stadium for a noon kickoff.
All of the WolfPack matches—home and away—will be webcast on a pay per view basis on www.Canadawest.TV.
