Chalk up a victory for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team. The ‘Pack kicked off their 2017 exhibition season with a 86-69 victory over the NAIT Ooks of Edmonton, Alberta.
The game was played on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre.
TRU led 21-19 after the first quarter and were up 45-27 at the half.
In the second quarter, the WolfPack outgunned the Ooks, who play in the Alberta College Athletic Conference 24-8.
The Ooks did win the third quarter 26-24.
TRU had four players in double figures led by Luke Morris (5th year, forward, Mission, BC). He had 21 points.
Joe Davis (3rd year, forward, Kamloops, BC) added 16 points. Derek Rhodes (4th year, forward, Antioch, CA) had a double double with 14 points and 12 rebounds-10 on the defensive glass.
Anton Bilous (3rd year, guard, Cherkassy, Ukraine) popped in 11 points while Michael Rouault (3rd year, guard, Vernon, BC) had 12 rebounds.
NAIT had three players in double figures: Ryan Delwo, Brady McKay and Kennedy George had 16 points. McKay added 11 boards with nine of them being defensive rebounds.
The Ooks are off to Prince George, BC to meet up with the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
TRU has the rest of the weekend off. They will visit the Trinity Western University Spartans in Langley, BC on October 14th.
The ‘Pack begin regular season play in the Canada West on Friday, October 27th at the TCC when they entertain the MacEwan University Griffins. Tip off will be 8 pm on the Warner Rentals Court.
