The Carleton University Griffins had a strong second half and rolled to a 14 point win over the host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack in exhibition women’s basketball action. The two teams played Saturday (Oct 7) on the Warner Rentals court at the Tournament Capital Centre.
The final score was75-61 in favor of the Ravens: who evened their tourney record at 1 and 1 in the four team event. They had lost to the University of Alberta Pandas 55-52 on Friday night. After the teams were tied at 12 after the first quarter, Carleton led 31-27 at the half. The Ravens outscored the WolfPack 44-34 in the final two quarters.
“We did a very poor job of defensive rebounding and it cost us more than the game,” said ThompsoN Rivers head coach Scott Reeves. “Carleton is a very well disciplined team and they exploited our weakness’ defensively tonight.”
Carleton had 52 rebounds including 26 on the defensive glass. TRU had 27 rebounds: 10 offensively.
Jenjen Abella had 12 points to lead Carleton. Heather Lindsay had 10 points and 14 rebounds. Alexandra Trivieri had 11 points.
The WolfPack’s main gunners were Michelle Bos (4th year, guard, Surrey, BC) and Emma Piggin (4th year, guard, Kamloops, BC) with 12 points apiece. Chelsea Hoey (3rd year, forward, Parksville, BC) had 10 points.
The other game on Saturday had Alberta win its second straight game 69-49 over the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. UFV will meet up with Carleton in the other game on Sunday.
The WolfPack open up their 2017-18 Canada West regular season on Friday, October 27th at the TCC when they entertain the MacEwan University Griffins of Edmonton, Alberta. Tip off will be 6 pm on the Warner Rentals Court.
