The Corryn Brown foursome, representing the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack continue to roll right along at the 2018 USPORTS women’s curling nationals.
The WolfPack went to 4-1 in the round robin after an 8-5 victory over Kaitlin Jewer and the Wilfred Laurier University Golden Hawks on Monday morning (Mar 26). The game was played at the Ken’s Furniture Arena.
Thompson Rivers jumped to a 1-0 lead after the first end but then gave up two to Laurier in the second end. Brown and her foursome: consisting of third Erin Pincott, second Dezeray Hawes and lead Samantha Fisher then tied it up with a single in the third end.
After Laurier regained the lead (3-2) in the fourth end, the Pack scored two in the fifth and stole two more in the sixth. The WolfPack have stolen five ends at the nationals so far while giving up only three.
The Pack added two more in the eighth.
Thompson Rivers curled 84 per cent. Fisher had a 78 per cent success rate, Hawes was 79 percent, Pincott was an impressive 96 per cent while Brown curled 82 per cent.
The Brown rink’s 4-1 record is good enough for a first place tie with the Brock University Badgers.
Next up for TRU will be the University of Regina Cougars and skip Haylee Jameson. The Cougars are 1 and 4. That game will be played Monday evening at 5 pm MDT.
Round robin play winds up on Tuesday afternoon (Mar 27) with the WolfPack facing Mount Allison. The semifinals are set for 7:30 pm MDT on Tuesday with the medal games set for Wednesday (Mar 28) at Noon MDT.
