The final weekend of the regular season got off to a hot start for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team on Saturday. They took both games of their doubleheader against the Vancouver Island University Mariners, winning 4-2 and 11-4.n TRU’s Tyler Hodder (Fort McMurray, AB) got the start on the mound in game one and tossed his best game of the season. He got the win, throwing a complete game, allowing just two runs on three hits and two walks. Hodder also struck out 10 VIU batters.
Senior Josh Hillis (Calgary, AB) had a great day in the start of his final regular season weekend in the CCBC. He finished 3-4 with a double, three RBIs and a walk. Liam Rihela (White Rock, BC) went 1-4 with a double, a RBI and a walk. Kamloops kid Connor McKenzie finished 2-3 with a run scored and a walk. Zac Comeault (Pitt Meadows, BC) went 1-2 with two runs scored and a walk. Cole Paquin (Regina, SK) also collected a base hit, scored a run and walked twice.
In game two, third year Dillon Ferguson (Kirkland, WA) got the start and got the win. Ferguson tossed six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and six walks. But he did strike out nine batters. Joe Siniscalchi (Burnaby, BC) threw three innings of shutout ball, striking out three batters.
Hillis went 3-4 again in game two and had two RBIs and scored twice. Liam Rihela went 3-3 with a double, two runs scored and a walk. Josh Snider (Moses Lake, WA) went 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Nick Bolt (Brooks, AB) also had a double and finished 3-4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Kyron Smith (Maple Ridge, BC) collected two RBIs on a base hit. Josiah Williams (Cloverdale, BC) went 1-4 with a run scored. Lucas Lott (Kamloops, BC) and Jordy Cunningham (Ladner, BC) each collected a base hit as well.
The WolfPack will take on the Mariners again tomorrow at Norbrock Stadium. Game times are 10am and 1pm. It will be the last two regular season games for seniors Jordy Cunningham, Regan Gillis and Josh Hillis.
