WolfPack women’s basketball just fall short against UNBC

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team kicked off their final series of exhibition games on Thursday night (Oct 18).

The WolfPack entertained the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves on the Warner Rentals court at the Tournament Capital Centre. The Pack fell 75-72.

The WolfPack were down by two (20-18) after the first quarter but outscored UNBC 19-12 in the second to take a 37-32 advantage into the dressing room.

After both teams scored 24 points in the third quarter, the Timberwolves scored 19 points to TRU’s 11 in the fourth quarter to come away with the victory.

UNBC had four players in double figures offensively led by Vasiliki Louka who had 20 points and 15 rebounds (10 on the defensive glass). Madison Landry added 16 points, Alina Shakirova had 15 points while Maria Mongomo added 14 points.

The WolfPack outrebounded UNBC 47-42. Thompson Rivers was led by fifth year forward Michelle Bos (Surrey, BC) who had 23 points and seven rebounds (5 defensively). Leilani Carney (4th year, guard, Burnaby, BC) had 16 points.

Thompson Rivers will close out their 2018 preseason with tournament games this coming Saturday (Oct 20) and Sunday (Oct 21) in Edmonton, Alberta. They will face the Alberta Pandas and the Lethbridge Pronghorns.

TRU opens their 2018-19 Canada West regular season on the road on October 26th in Abbotsford, BC against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.
