The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team ended their 2018 Canada West preseason with a defeat.
The WolfPack were on the short end of a 62-56 decision to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at an exhibition tournament at the University of Alberta.
The teams were tied at 13 after the first quarter. Thompson Rivers held a 27-24 advantage at the half and outscored the Pronghorns 19-17 in the third quarter to hold a 46-41 lead.
“ We had a two minute stretch at the end of the fourth quarter where we had the lead, “ said TRU head coach Scott Reeves. “We let them tie it up and they went on a run which we couldn’t get back. We competed well and bounced back after yesterday’s effort. The work ethic was there but we couldn’t make the shots when we needed to. We have to be able to shoot better going into the regular season.”
Thompson Rivers was led by Leilani Carney (4th year, guard, Burnaby, BC) with 21 points. Michelle Bos (5th year, guard, Surrey, BC) added 19 points.
Lethbridge got 12 points from Danielle Fritzke with 12 points while Katie Keith had 10.
The WolfPack are on the road to open their 2018-19 Canada West regular season on Friday (Oct 26) when they visit the University of Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford. Their home opener is Friday, November 9th at the Tournament Capital Centre against the University of Victoria Vikes.
