WolfPack Baseball Win Two, Lose One in Tripleheader in Last Washington Trip

In the last weekend before the start of the regular season, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Baseball team headed back to Washington State for three exhibition games against the Shoreline Community College Dolphins. The game scheduled for Saturday was cancelled because of rain so the teams made it up by playing a tripleheader  on Sunday (Mar 19).

 

The ‘Pack went 2-1, winning game one 8-3, game two 3-1 and losing game three 10-3.

 

Tyler Hodder started game one on the mound and decided to give the bullpen the morning off as he threw a complete game. He allowed three runs on ten hits and one walk. He struck out two batters.

The offense exploded in the fourth inning as they scored seven runs including a based clearing double by Vance Fode (Bow Island, AB) and a two-run double off the wall by Malik James (Toronto, ONT). Isiah McDonald (Grand Forks, BC) went 2-3 with a RBI sacrifice fly and a run scored. Connor McKenzie (Kamloops, BC) went 2-3 with a walk and a run scored. Ethan Mohan (Calgary, AB) and Malik James also had a base hit each while Josh Hillis (Calgary, AB) collected a RBI.

Game two was a closer game between the two teams. Dillon Ferguson (Kirkland, WA) was the starting pitcher for the WolfPack and he looked ready for the regular season as he threw seven innings, allowing only one run on five hits and one walk. Zach Chaba (Vancouver, BC) got the hold as he threw a perfect eighth inning. Duncan Elgert (Calgary, AB) got the save in the ninth, also throwing a perfect inning.

Timely hitting was all the ‘Pack needed in game two as they had a clutch base hit by Adam Filmon (Winnipeg, MB) in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the seventh. Filmon’s double in the fourth inning brought in two runs. He would add another base hit and finish 2-4. Isiah McDonald hit a one out double in the seventh inning and Ethan Mohan drove him in with a RBI single. Greg Labranche (Maple Ridge, BC), Josh Iannetti (Fort McMurray, AB) and Blayne Halland all collected a base hit as well.

Game three was a seven-inning game and Josh Snider (Moses Lake, WA) started on the mound. He threw three innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks. He struck out three batters. Joe Siniscalchi (Burnaby, BC) came into the game and threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits. He also walked two batters. Zach Chaba came into the game in the fifth inning. He threw 1 1/3 innings, not allowing a run and striking out two.

Joe Siniscalchi – 2.2 innings, 8 hits, 7 runs, 7 earned runs, 2 BB, 0 HBP, 0 K

Rookie third baseman Nick Peters (Maple Ridge, BC) had a perfect game offensively in game three. He went 2-2 with a double, a RBI, a walk and a run scored. Austin Dundas (Pilot Butte, SASK) doubled in the sixth inning and Peters drove him in with a single. Lucas Lott (Kamloops, BC) collected a RBI by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in that sixth inning. Yutaro Takasaki (Japan) had a big game as well, going 2-3 with a double. Jordy Cunningham (Ladner, BC) collected a single while Kyron Smith walked twice and Connor McKenzie walked and scored a run.

The WolfPack’s CCBC regular season will begin on Saturday, March 25th in Chilliwack against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. But before the season started, the ‘Pack will try to play a couple more exhibition games in Kamloops against the University of Alberta.
