The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack continued their 2017 Canada West exhibition season with their third game at an exhibition tournament being hosted by the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary. On Saturday (Aug 12), they met up with the host team. The WolfPack led twice in the match but wound up with their third straight pre-season draw.

The final score was: 2-2. The match was led 1-0 by the WolfPack at the half.

TRU started rookie Alex Ram (Leister, England) in the first half. He was replaced by Lubomir Magdolen (2nd year, Kamloops, BC).

The WolfPack gave up two ‘special’ situation goals in this match. They haven’t given up a regular marker in this tournament.
TRU goals came from Jason Staiger and Emmanual Aniogbe.
This was the first ever match between the schools-either exhibition or league play.

Goal scoring:

25 Minutes-TRU: Mitch Popadynetz (4th year, Nelson, BC) received the ball from the TRU defenders. He passed it up to forward Jason Staiger (4th year, Agassiz, BC). He scored on a breakaway.

55 minutes: Mount Royal tied it on a penalty kick

60 minutes: Justin Donaldson (3rd year, Kamloops, BC) took the ball on a run down the flank and crossed it to Emmanual Aniogbe (pronounced: A-knee-oh-bay) (1st year, Port Coquitlam, BC).

80 minutes: TRU keeper Lubomir Magdolen collides with Mount Royal player. Penalty kick awarded and Mount Royal scored.

TRU (pre season) 0-0-3

TRU head coach John Antulov:

On game: “This was our best performance to date. Mount Royal is a very strong team (it looks like all the teams we have played in Canada West so far this year have improved). But we played with discipline and were well organized. I thought we were solid from front to back. We utilized 19 guys today and all played well. I was very happy.”

The WolfPack will wind up the tournament Sunday (Aug 13) against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns (10 am MDT).

The team will switch suitcases and then go to Oregon for exhibition matches Aug 17-22nd. Their Canada West season opener is Friday, August 25th in Prince George, BC against the Timberwolves.

The ‘Pack’s home opener is Saturday, September 2nd at Hillside Stadium when the University of Victoria Vikes come to town. It’s a 2 pm start time.
All of the WolfPack matches—home and away—will be webcast on a pay per view basis on www.Canadawest.TV.

The WolfPack are hosting the 2017 USport Men’s Soccer Nationals November 9-12th. Tickets on sale in September.
