The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have finished in a tie for first place after the round robin portion of the 2018 USPORTS Curling Nationals.
The WolfPack, represented by the Corryn Brown foursome finished with a record of 5-2 at the event which is being hosted by the University of Alberta in Leduc.
The Pack beat Mount Allison Mounties 5-4. Mount Allison is skipped by Krista Nix.
TRU scored one in the first, three more in the fifth and added a single in the 10 th end. Mount Allison finished with a 4-3 record. The Mounties had a point in the fourth, one in the seventh and two in the eighth.
Thompson Rivers curled 82 per cent in the game compared to Mount Allison’s 75.
Lead Samantha Fisher and third Erin Pincott both had 85 per cent. Second Dezaray Hawes was at 80 per cent while Brown curled 78 per cent.
The WolfPack, Alberta and Brock all finished with 5-2 records. The Pandas and Kristen Streifel beat Terri Weeks and Brock 9-7 in their final round robin game. Alberta was awarded first place because of victories over Thompson Rivers and Brock.
Other scores in the final draw had Laurier beat Queens 5-4. Laurier finished at 3-4 with Queens at 2-5. Regina doubled up Memorial 8-4. Regina wound up 4-4 with Memorial finishing 1-7.
The semifinals are set for 7:30 PM tonight MDT. Brown and the WolfPack will face Weeks and Brock while Alberta will tangle with Mount Allison. The winners will play for the gold medal Wednesday (Mar 28) at Noon. The losers will meet for bronze at the same time.
Brown and Thompson Rivers won the “then” CIS silver medal when they competed two years ago.
