A dream has come true for Jordan Foot. The 6’6” middle from Prince George, BC will graduate this week from Thompson Rivers University with a business degree. Icing on the cake is the fact that Foot has now secured a professional volleyball contract.
Foot has signed a one year deal with with TV Bliesen who play in the ten team German third division.

He explains how the pro contract came about, “Towards the end of the semester when the team and I were playing really well, I went for dinner after a game with my parents and it kind of came up that it wouldn’t hurt to try to play pro as this would be the perfect time in my life. I messaged Casey Knight who used to play for TRU about the process he went through and he was absolutely amazing. He helped me put together my athlete CV which is like my volleyball resume, different agents and agencies to try, and video highlights.”

Foot continues, “At the start of May when I was at my sisters place hanging out with her friends and Colin Carson (former WolfPack star and fellow Prince George resident)was also there. Colin highly suggested Joost Kooistra, a FIVB certified agent, for me to apply for his representation. I sent him an email about how I wanted to play overseas and he wanted my athlete CV and video highlights which I sent him a few days later. The most stressful week of my life passes by until I get email on May 17 from Mr Kooistra about an offer from a club in Germany. “

Foot said the offer from the German squad exceeded all his expectations. “ I do know it’s a perfect fit for me currently and believe I will get plenty of playing time so I can further develop my athletic skills.”

“Jordan certainly earned this contract,” says WolfPack head coach Pat Hennelly. “It’s great. Jordan really came together this year. He is only going to get better. Volleyball is a ‘late maturing sport’, you don’t reach your peak until age 28-30. I think Foot will really enjoy himself. Germany is a great country to start playing in in terms of sights, food and culture. It is an awesome opportunity for him.”

Hennelly said it is a little tougher going pro without having being part of the national team on your resume. “Physically he is an international athlete. Foot really took charge of it. I was confident that he had the ability to play pro but again, you have to secure a contract and get yourself out there. Jordan was really proactive on that. Canada is at an all-time high in the area of talent. We have had a number of players go onto play pro from our program and that obviously helped Jordan.”

He agrees that his final season with the WolfPack (2017-18) was his best season and helped him get his first pro contract. “ I really became my own self and played with a calmness and confidence that I have never experienced before. The growth the team has made and will continue to go through assisted with me feeling this way. I couldn’t have asked for a better season to end my great career at Thompson Rivers.”

SIDE OUTS: Hennelly says the road that Foot took to become a pro was very similar to fellow TRU alumna Casey Knight (Salt Spring Island, BC). “Again, Jordan has potential play and potential to try out next summer for the National “B” team like Casey did. I am glad Jordan decided to keep going and we encourage all our players to purse a pro career if they so desire.”

Foot had this to say about his experience with Thompson Rivers, Thank you to my hardworking teammates for an amazing five years, I’ll really cherish all the memories and moments we’ve had together, you are all my brothers and hold you in the highest regard. Thank you to my great coach Pat Hennelly, who transformed a deer-in-the-headlights first year rookie into a confident team captain and strength captain. He pushed me out of my comfort zone which is where the most important growth happens. both as a person and athlete.”
